It is normal for the phone to generate heat when in use. The phone will never overheat to the point of posing danger to the user. Occasionally, a phone may alert the user that it needs to cool down while in VR. This is simply because when the phone gets too warm, the image inside VR may begin to lag, which can induce nausea for some users. In other words, any overheating alerts are a just comfort warning, not a safety warning.
There are a few ways to minimize overheating during use:
- Charge the phone away from other heat-generating electronics, including other phones.
- Remove the phone from the GearVR when not in use.
- Store the phone in a cooler area, away from direct sunlight.
